Tried the phone findr yesterday and it kind of worked. The location was a half-mile off. Just tried it again and it put me in the Gulf of Gienua off the coast of Africa.
I installed HTC Sense for the phone finder, but so far it's not working. It says that the device finder is disabled, but it is checked. It does however remotely ring the phone.
So I've been playing with HTC Sense phone finder. Not surprisingly, the more satellites you pick up, the better the location is. With no satellites (like inside a building or someone turned off satellites) you are down to simply triangulation from the towers. This was about 1/4 mile off.
AVG's FindR is still out in the Gulf of Gienua and I can't find a way to refresh it. Odd.
I'm wondering why HTC doesn't have a complete overide for this feature. You can lock the phone, wipe it, call forward and ring it from the Sense page. Wouldn't it be smart to also be able to activate satellite detection, in case a theif were savvy enough to turn it off or if you had it off and lost your phone? Obviously a really smart theif will pull the battery until they find a new sim card. But a kid or someone who knows little about smart phones may not know it can be located so easily. Just a thought....
