My Inspire fell this morning, hit the corner of the phone and the screen is now broken. Sprint is unwilling to do anything about it. Boo for me. I am going to call HTC and see what they will charge to replace the screen.

That sucks...do you have the insurance?  If something else happend to break on it, they might have to replace it. hint hint...
Nope, no protection plan. I just sent an email to some execs at Sprint and I am going to call HTC in a few minutes. Worst case, I'll just pay full price for a new one but it's shouldn't come to that:)

I think youre still within the time period to add insurance coverage on your phone through sprint.

it isnt too late, and it's your best option since you'd be getting a new phone.

It didn't fall very far and it didn't hit super hard. It just happened to hit in a corner that I guess wasn't very well protected. It's looking as though I am going to have to wait for a replacement to become available and then replace it myself. I'm getting no where with Sprint and HTC.

Well, if it's on you, you might as well see if you can just get a new glass and replace it yourself.

http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/HTC-Inspire-4G-Teardown/2979/2

Step 11: "Removing the glass is not terribly difficult with the Inspire 4G. This is great news for those unfortunate enough to drop their shiny phone and crack the glass."

Are you past the grace period to add Sprint's insurance?

Yep, adding the protection is not an option.

HTC has agreed to replace it, once that program starts. It took Sprint calling them for me to get that far. I would love to just replace the glass myself but I can't find the glass anywhere on the web. If anyone can find the glass for me, that would be amazing.

I was also wondering, did you have any kind of case on the phone? I don't like using them myself, especially since it's already a goliath of a phone.

The "repair program"! No, it's not a joke. HTC does not have a repair program in place for this phone BUT just as soon as they get that situated they will contact me. Don't say it, I have said everything that culminates in WTF.

THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED THIS MORNING TO MY Inspire!!!!

Those of you silly enough to buy iPhones, please try dropping them so that their edges hit a hard surface–say the sidewalk–from 5 to 6 feet in the air directly on one corner at a 45″ angle to the ground. That should cause the entire screen to shatter like a blow-up balloon! Shame on Apple for not mounting the screen around a floating rubber pad to absorb that sort of impact!

I may be the first to do it but I won't be the last...it's all about how it hits the ground.

HTC cannot repair my screen at this time because they do not have a repair program in place to repair the HTC Inspire phone. When they create a repair program, they will call me and then I can send the phone in for repair.  They do not know when this program will be created but they assured the Sprint guy that it is forthcoming.

I'm not creating the rules, I am just repeating them as they have been told to me. I question why their existing repair program for every other phone that they make is not good enough for this phone or why they are selling a phone that they are not prepared to repair. All questions we don't think to ask when we buy the phone. Funny, I am willing to pay to repair the screen but there is no one to give it to.

I have an insurance workaround for you...

it only works if you have another unactivated (new or old) sprint device.
