How can I remove email sound alerts on htc inspire? The beep noise set at Gamma wakes me at night. In other words I can't find instructions anywhere.  I want to delete the beep when I get a new email. Thanks!

Open up the mail app and select menu > more > settings > notification settings and turn off sound.  At least this is how it is on the new gingerbread ROM.

I know what you're talking about. Before my Android I had a Blackberry that allowed me to turn off email and SMS alerts. I use my phone as an alarm in the morning when I travel and the alerts would wake me up in the middle of the night.

There is a free app in the Android Market that I discovered called Android Assistant. Among the many other things it does, it has a feature to let you turn off alerts for email and/or SMS. If you try it, just click on the TOOLS tab, then select Volume Control. That's it. It's also a file explorer, system monitor, and toaster oven (just kidding about the oven). Not bad for free.

the inspire has an option in alarm settings, to let the alarm still go off when the phone is in silent mode, so if you don't want disturbed by calls, texts and emails during the night, then just make sure the "alarm on in silent" box is checked in alarm settings and then put your phone on silent mode, rest assured your alarm will still be nice and loud.....also, if you just don't want email going off, tap on your email or gmail widget, then once in there hit menu, then more, then settings, then scroll down to notification settings, there you may choose if you want to be notified of emails in notification bar, and/or by ringtone (hit "select ringtone" and you can choose SILENT from the list of tones), and/or if you want vibrate on or off, hope this helps  Smiley  also, you can customize notifications for text messages as well, once in MESSAGES, hit menu, and settings and you may also customize how you are notified of texts as well  wink,  Huh?  Huh?  Huh?  EDIT...after seeing the below post,lol... the two are separate, changing the email DOES NOT change the texts, i was just letting you know that you ALSO have the option to cuztomize your text notifications as well, but you do that by going into MESSAGES instead of emails Huh? by doing this from inside the actual email, then email is the only thing it changes, its really quite simple...

I understand what you wrote but I want to continue to get email notifications in the status bar without the sound. if I uncheck like you said then I will not get notices in the 'status bar'. is there a functionality to get silent notifications???
thanks

thanks again but my phone is different from your for some reason & I can't do what you say.  Sad
I don't have the option 'No Sound' for emails & 'Yes Sound' for Messages. Maybe there is way to get this option but I don't have it.  Sad
I have it checked to hear notifications sound for text messages but I don't hear anything since the general notification sound slider is low. I have the sliding bar on low since I don't want sound every time I get an email.
I am baffled. Any suggestions?Huh?

ok, we'll try this again...alot of us, me included, have more than one kind of email account set up on our inspires and i think hazel was giving you the correct instructions for the stock MAIL app, however, i believe that you may have the GMAIL, which is just a little bit different.......go to the little gmail widget, the one you tap on to see your emails....tap on it...once you are IN the gmail app where you see the list of all your emails, tap the menu button at the bottom of your phone, then hit MORE, then hit SETTINGS, then look for NOTIFICATIONS SETTINGS, then adjust from there.......EMAIL NOTIFICATIONS is used to notify you in the notifications bar, make sure it is checked... then right below that it says SELECT RINGTONE, click on that and then scroll up thru the ringtones, SILENT is a choice at the top of your ringtones list , CHOOSE IT! then select OK... then, just below "select ringtones" you'll see VIBRATE, from there you may choose if you want your phone to vibrate for new emails or not and how and when it vibrates....and there you go...this has zero effect on your text notifications since it is done from inside the EMAIL settings, it is strictly for email, hope this finally gets it done for ya  Smiley  also, once you've turned email sound to silent, it might be a good idea to turn your general notifications sound back up so that you can hear texts and voicemail...hope this helps
