Whats up guys, I'm having a problem with the HTC Inspire not applying the ringtones or the notification sounds I pick, It always uses the default sound. How do you fix this?

Thanks.

i haven't had any problems with that.  are you trying to save the default or custom ringtones.  try this for custom.

On your SD card create folder media/audio/notifications/ringtones/alarms.  put them all in the alarms folder.  this also bypasses the 300kb for me.

I am trying to save custom ringtones. I was successful saving a custom ringtone as the default...but now it won't let me save an additional custom ringtone for one of my contacts. I'll try the folder. Thanks!

eta: I tried this and am still having the same issue.

tried this too and still having the same issue.

I do appreciate your help.

also, I don't know if this helps any or not. Out of curiosity, I tried to do this same scenario with ringtones that came with my phone and I can't do that either. I choose ringtone A as my default and then tried to change the ringtone for a single contact. I choose ringtone B, select ok, and then I am taken back to the contact's main page and it is indicated that the ringtone is the default, ringtone A.

Have you tried powering off the phone and pulling the battery for 30-60 seconds?

I did. I also contacted HTC and they got back with me very quickly suggesting also to remove the battery. I told them that this did not work and I will report back if they have any further suggestions.

Ok, i don't know why this is, but this is what worked for me...

I could not change the ringtone for a contact that was not linked to another account somehow.  Contacts linked to facebook worked great.  So, what i ended up doing was exporting all of my contacts from outlook, and then importing them into my gmail account.  i then synced the phone to the gmail account, essentially showing the phone two accounts with the same people.  The phone linked the two accounts together, thus having all of my contacts that were not linked to facebook linked to another account.  After doing this, I could change ringtones.

pain in the rear, but it worked...

Please don't post the same question multiple times throughout the forum. You have already posted 2 threads about this question.  Someone will answer when they can. Thanks.

I created the folder media/audio/notifications/ringtones/alarms on the SD card, and copied all of my custom ringtones in the alarms folder.  The result is still the same as before I did this, i.e. the custom ringtone for various contacts shows as changed and indeed it is as long as I do not power off and then power on.  When I do the latter the custom ringtones go back to "default".  Does the phone read from SD card 1st?  Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated.  And now when I try to select a custom ringtone there are duplicate ringtones available from which to choose. H-E-L-P.

think copying might be your problem.  move them all to the alarms folder.....

I resolved the problem.  Here's how.  Went to Best Buy (where I got the phone).  They said that it doesn't matter where the ringtones are.  The key is that after selecting the ringtone for the contact to then select EDIT and then SAVE.  Then we powered off and then on and lo and behold the ringtone associations were still there!  Smiley
