for some odd reason unwarranted the car panel app will just open up on its own.. i could be texting and it opens. I could be on twitter and it opens.. When i plug it in to charge it just randomly pops up on its own threw the course of the charge.  I Factory reset the phone and it STILL does it. Any Suggestions as to why this is happening?

If you've done a reset and its still acting up, you should probably take it in to be looked at and/or fixed.

try going into the car panel>settings and see if auto-launch is checked. shouldnt do it either way but maybe it will make it stop. just something else to try before taking it back

I've had mine for about 3 weeks - it just started doing the same thing yesterday. I force stop the process, set my phone on the table and about 2 minutes later it is back in Car Panel. Anytime I reboot the phone, it immediately boots up in Car Panel. If I plug the HTC charger cable into it - if it is not already in that mode, it switches to it. My phone is not rooted and only has 3 games that have been added - so pretty much as shipped. I have a week to decide whether to return it or not, right now I am leaning towards returning and trying the Motorola Atrix due to this constant issue. Since it enters this mode even when it is in my pocket, and the display is constant while in Car Panel, my battery life at the moment is very short.

I had this as well, it is the car charger. It has an extra pin that is used for phones like BB. I bought a new car charger for an HTC phone and it worked like a charm!

As I did not have a car charger, or even a OEM charger - that was not the cause on mine. Since it was only 3 weeks old, I just took it back and traded it for another one. So, far, after just over a week, this one is still working fine. HTC and AT&T neither one could give me a reason for this. At the AT&T store, I am not sure he believed that it was auto-launching into car mode, until he disabled it and set it down behind the counter, walked in back to ask a question, by the time he walked back up front about 2-3 minutes later, it had re-launched into car mode again. When mine started doing this, it was probably about 2-3 hours after I removed it from the wall charger.

mine started doing it out of the blue as well, only a month old.  most of the time it stays in car panel, sometimes it constantly flashes back and forth.  tried shutting it off, pulling battery, i'm not too confident about rooting it and not screwing it up in the process.  totally love the phone other than this annoying problem.

It can also be an issue with the connector probes.  If one is broken or loose, it can be causing the phone to go into car mode.

I don't know if I am missing something, but when I go into settings the only option I have is for the Display mode for automatic, daytime, nightime...
Should I have more options?

I actually find this car mode limiting compared to other phones.  The Droid 2 allows you to add functions and personalize it.  I wish I can add music player and remove some of them...

Interesting to see other people are having this problem.  Mine started doing this a couple days ago.  It seemed to coincide with everyone complaining that I sound like I'm talking to them in a wind tunnel.  I'm out of town but headed back home tomorrow.  Friday, I'll be headed to AT&T to see what they will do to fix this phone.  I've had the phone for almost 3 months now, but I'm hopeful they will do something.  The car panel is the least of my problems.  If people can't hear me or understand me, the phone is useless.

Did anyone find out what was causing this? It started doing it to me on Saturday. Drove me nuts all afternoon. Then, Sunday morning I got up, unplugged it from the charger, and the whole phone crashed. Now, I can get the phone to turn on only when it is connected to the charger. As soon as I unplug it, the phone just dies. I tried pulling the battery, sim card, and sd card. Nothing made a difference. I've had to switch over to my backup phone, a motorola flipside that I despise, until I can get my inspire working again.

I suppose I have to try the warranty route, but really don't want an at&t refurb phone, so im hoping it is something I can fix myself.

I'm having the same issue with car panel opening up unwanted. This is my second phone after I called AT&T and HCT with my complaint. They could not figure out the problem over the phone, so I requested a new phone.

I determined that the USB port is the problem. I can move the USB while it is charging and get the car mode to turn on and turn off.  WOW!! There must be a small pin or connector that triggers the car panel... very annoying. I'm going to call HCT with my findings and see if there Techs know about the problem. Other wise the phone is just an unpredictable POS and I really like all the other features of the phone. Cry

I found a link that might be useful

Yes it is the USB port that triggers the carpanel.  Not all chargers, adapters, and headphones are compatible with the inspire.  3rd party or low amp chargers may have a pin bridged on their usb end.  This is by design. But this can kick the carpanel in.  Trying to use a cheap adapter off of ebay to use usb headphones can trigger the carpanel.  This can also redial the last number called on some instances.  Damage to your usb port can also trigger the carpanel.

If you are having this issue and are using a 3rd party charger or anything plugged into the usb third party built then remove it and see if the issue goes away. Try using compressed air to blow out the usb port.

I have seen this issue on a few HTC phones as well as samsung phones.
