I'm told that my Inspire will sync all my contacts with Google such that if I lose my phone or get a new phone, I can simply transfer them back from Google.
I have 200+ contacts in my phone, yet when I log into gmail and view "contacts" there are 0 people listed, so something isn't matching up right.
The guy at the store told me to save all my contacts to my SIM card. Is this the problem? I am aware that some phones/providers do not even use sim cards, but I have AT&T and we do.
I have my phone synced with my gmail account, and also with my facebook account, yet my contacts are not copying over to gmail.
Can someone please help me understand what I am missing here?
edit - after I synced up with facebook, I was expecting many of my contacts (in the "People" app) to have their icons change to facebook pics, but only one of them actually changed. The rest are still the generic gray default image. Did I do something wrong here?
Also, when I txt people, my facebook pic shows up by my txts, but no one else's does on their txts when they text me. Why? These are people that are on my facebook and in my contacts.
edit 2- I'm doing what it says to do in the common problems thread. I backed up my contacts to my SD card, then I deleted contacts and people... guess what, they are still showing up on my phone, so apparently they are not deleted. So now when I copy them back from the SD card (as google contacts) they all become duplicates.
edit 3 - the only way to stop the SIM contacts from showing up (even after doing a "clear data" for people and contacts) was to go to the People app and do "menu" and then "view" and then uncheck "SIM card". Then my People app was empty.
So then I did "import from SD card" and the list was still empty. That has me a little worried since last time I did that, I got duplicates of everyone (one on the SIM card and one copied over from the SD card). Anyway, then I went into Settings, Accounts and Sync, Gmail, and rechecked "sync contacts", and the little icon has been spinning for a few minutes so hopefully it's working correctly this time.edit 4
- ok, now all my contacts are on google. They're still on my SIM card, too, but I have those set to not show up. How come only like 4 of 200+ contacts have facebook icons next to their names now? What criteria does Android use to determine which contacts get pictures taken from facebook vs. ones that don't?
