When I receive a text message the contact info isn't showing up and it only shows the number but when I click on the number it opens up to that person's contact info. If I edit the contact number a little with a dash or a 1 then it links and the contact name shows up. It's like the numbers and contact info aren't syncing together. I don't want to have to save the same phone number 10 different ways for it to show the contact info... Anyone have any ideas on what is going on and how I can fix it? I updated to the new gingerbread 2.3.3 yesterday and have been having problems with syncing issues ever since. I had all of my Facebook contacts sync to my phone even though I didn't have any of the setting set to sync Facebook. I deleted the Facebook sync account and had to clear the cache on some of the sync stuff because the facebook contacts wouldn't disappear even after I deleted the facebook sync account.

Many are having issues like this. You will have to start changing all your mobile contacts to +1 555 555 5555 without the spaces. +1 is the international code for the USA. Possibly the sms messages are routed through international servers. For some reason not all contacts are affected at the moment. But you better get used to it. I have been doing this for 2 years through 4 phones.
Some have called it a bug. Some have even said they pulled the update because of this. I first noticed it 2 years ago with samsung non smart phones and even an LG phone. Well I guess smartphones are being affected now. If you remember it wasn't that long ago when we only needed 555 5555 for sms messages. Now we need the area code too.
If you do the format I suggested you will have no more issues with sms or cellphone calls. All pics will now match.

I am having this same issue. I changed all contacts to include +1, seemed to work for while then it happened again. I read somewhere else that if you have multiple contacts it will do this. I had the contacts on my phone as well as on my SIM. I deleted all my SIM contacts to insure the phone wasn't getting confused. That also seemed to work, but then it happened again. All of my contacts are linked to there respective facebook/gmail, so each number only has one contact associated with it. If anyone has any other ideas I would love to hear them. Thanks.

Yeah. It worked on mine for a little while but started up again too. I'm not linked to Facebook and I don't have any numbers saved on my sim card. Everyone only has one number. Any ideas?

If you have the contact listed as +15555555555 when that contact sends you a text what number do you see since it is not that contact's pic and name?

It shows up as +15555555555. The numbers are exactly the same but it isn't linking with the contact. If I click on the number and select open contact it will bring up that persons contact information ie name, number, picture. It just doesn't make sense why its not pulling in the name or picture.

Do you use the facebook app on your phone and have facebook contacts linked? It has been reported that uninstalling facebook (update I am guessing) fixes the contact issues.

No. I don't use the facebook app or have my contacts linked to it.

I started using the handcent messaging app and it pulls the contact info perfectly. The messaging app that is broken still didn't bring in the contact info when the handcent app did.

Well maybe that is why I never see the issue. I only use Handcent for sms. HTC messaging app can't compare to it.
