Menu
Network and Settings
APN Settings
Make sure ATT is selected..

if it is, then do a hard restart.....while phone is on take out battery.

If that doesn't fix it, download custom APN settings

NEVER take out the battery on your phone when it is on.  That is how you corrupt files.  Only remove the battery as a last resort like when the phone is totally locked up.

That is not how you corrupt files. That is how you reset the network to where it will sync with your phone. If you turn your phone off, it will not update properly

Wrong info. And it can cause data corruption.   You pull your battery out AFTER the phone is correctly powered down.

Reset your connection in your settings  if you have these settings.

settings > wireless & networks > mobile networks > neywork operators > network operators        and allow the phone to find the operator.   When it finds it then select it and it will return registered on the network.  If you have more than 1 network in range then select "Select automatically"  and select the preferred data connection.

I maybe off the mark, but I will share what happened to me.  I upgraded the whole family to HTC and the internet worked for everyone but my wife.  After several hours on the phone with two levels of Tech support, they informed me that she had a 3g data plan and need to switch to a 4g data plan.  Once that was done her internet started working.  And I am talking about mobile internet not wifi.

I believe that is correct.  The APN's are different for the 3G and 4G plans if I am not mistaken.

Hey Goat,

I have really poor reception as well and went through your tutorial above, however when I get to the network operator section, they are not highlighted and do not let me search.  Am I missing something? thanks!

Dunno, ATT might have it locked to only them.  So it could be because of sim lock or the ROM.  My phone is unlocked and has an unbranded ROM.

i am having a similiar issue. i bought my inspire on the twelfth and have had no problems with it until today. It says i have either no service or very little service. when i go to network setting and go to network operators i am unable to choose anything because they are dimmed out. I had been confused as to why in the right top corner of my phone it says 3G when the inspire is a 4G phone.....maybe my data package is wrong as well....is that possible even though i have been using the internet flawlessly for almost three weeks now?

okay so i checked my data plan....it is for a 4G phone. and now my connection is slighty stronger. I still am curious about why it says 3G in the top left corner. also i was wondering what causes my wifi signal to become poor.

I went to ATT yesterday and had my phone and sim card switched out.  (mainly cause I dropped my phone and tohught maybe that jostled the antenna...) They tried to tell me that with 4g it will fluctuate seeing it is a newer network, but even with low bars reception should be good seeign it is stronger.  The so-called 4g network is not available all over, so it will change to 3g and E when nothing else is available.  That is what mine was doing, however since switching out, it is much improved and even stays on the H+ setting even in my office where I was not getting reception at all.

My wife also began to have similar issues with her IPhone a week ago or so.  I believe the ATT network is just weaker all around.  My Verizon Droid 2 has full bars everywhere I go.
