« on: March 22, 2011, 09:42:04 PM »

just got the inspire and the volume for speaker phone is absolutely crappy - volume is so LOW. Any idea how to adjust it? Also, where to go system updates, can't find it. Coming from moto droid 1 and i have to say this phone is quite different.

Menu, Settings, make sure the sounds and call settings are as you want them. Also located in the settings is the section for system updates.

yeah the volume is too low for me also. if you ROOT your phone and flash a rom with the volume boosted you will be satisfied.  the revolution hd rom or the coredroid roms are a good choice.

I highly recommend against rooting unless/until you have very thoroughly researched it and know exactly what you are doing. Sorry, but after seeing far too many people brick their phone and void their warranty, I think its wrong to encourage someone who just got their phone to root it.

wrong to encourage someone to root their phone?how is that wrong? root only benefits and it is really hard to brick these phones, especially with bubbys simple root. ive read countless posts of people messing up when rooting and then just start over and try again til they got it right.i never read one post of someone bricking with this method or with attn1's for that matter

Edit:

i would post a link to it but i would get in trouble round here. its called htc inspire 4g one click. it was made by bubby323.

I am not afraid to root. However, before I go forward, I must learn to go backwards. Just got this phone litteraly hours ago. Also, connected to wifi for a few minutes and now can not. Scanning shows no networks whatsoever.

Yes, I believe its wrong to encourage someone brand  new to the phone to root it, especially without warning them that doing so voids their phone's warranty, both with the phone's manufacturer and the service provider. Its actually surprisingly easy to brick a phone when attempting to root it. And yes, there are downsides to rooting, not just "benefits." So to encourage someone to do so when they have no idea what they are doing with their phone in the first place is completely irresponsible, imo.

but there is a rooting topic on the board, and everyone is new to the phone, it just came out. there is video tutorials on youtube and a few written ones to help you out.i dont see any downsides to "ROOTING".it voids the warranty sure but all you gotta do is unroot, simple as that.

You obviously haven't seen any cases of people irreversibly bricking their phones. I have. As such, I strongly feel that encouraging people to root their phone when they don't know anything about their phones yet and without sufficient warning as to the warranty issue and/or that its possible to brick their phones is irresponsible. You obviously don't agree. I don't really care whether you agree or not, to be honest. I will continue to urge people not to do so without learning exactly what they are doing and how to do it first and what the consequences could be.

Trust me when I say NOTHING should be assumed when discussing rooting to someone new. Inspire may be new to it but we've been rooting our Evos for close to a year now and in that time, I've seen a huge number of issues because someone insisted on jumping in with his eyes closed, both feet first, and ended up with days of frustration (on his side and ours as we tried to help figure out what he'd done wrong and/or how to restore it. There have been quite a few occasions where the phone was bricked completely. One just the other day, as a matter of fact, and it was someone very experienced with rooting. He flashed a new ROM and the phone went dead. Irreversibly. Can't charge it, can't turn it on at all. Completely bricked. And now, if he sends it in to be replaced, if they check it (and they can) and find its been rooted, it will void his warranty completely and he'd have to obtain a new phone at his own expense.

The sound quality absolutely sucks with this phone. gonna take it back today and get a replacement - hopefully it's just a lemon, otherwise, samsung galaxy or even iphone. This one in it's present state is totally unacceptable.

Thanks for all the replies.
